API Standard PS40 Hydraulic Disc Brake for Drilling Rig Brake System

JC40 Disc Brake Actuator consists of the brake disc, working calipers (normally open calipers), safety calipers (normally closed calipers), and caliper frame. It is divided into service brake and safety parking brake.

1. Brake Disc

Installation position: Both sides of the JC40 drum, with a single-side wear limit of 5mm.
Structure: Air-cooled structure, friction braking reference surface.

2. Working Calipers (Normally Open Calipers: 2 per side on the JC40)

Structure: Caliper body, single-acting cylinder, brake pads, return spring.
Cylinder: Driller brake lever → proportional hydraulic supply, as oil pressure rises → cylinder piston extends, pressing the brake pads against the disc; as oil pressure drops → return spring pulls back the brake pads to release.
Function: Smooth speed control when running up/down or sending drill, clamping force continuously adjusted with lever oil pressure, working oil pressure 0–7.5MPa.
Gap Adjustment: Normal brake pad to disc surface gap 1.0–1.5mm.

PS40 and PS50 disc brake devices are equipped on drilling rigs ZJ40 and ZJ50, with a drilling depth of 4000–5000 m and a maximum hook load of 2250–3150 kN. They feature 6 sets of brake calipers in total, including 4 sets of working calipers and 2 sets of safety calipers. The working braking torque ranges from 90 to 115 kN·m, and the parking braking torque ranges from 60 to 85 kN·m.
